#BuckleUpforBeth

On top of raising money for our national philanthropy, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH), we also have two adopted philanthropies, #BuckleUpForBeth & the Live Like Libby-Love Like Libby Foundation.

On December 28, 2015, we lost our sister, Bethany Joyce Harris, in a tragic car accident due to not wearing her seatbelt. As our creed states, "To keep forever sacred the memory of those we have loved and lost," we strive to keep the memory and legacy of our beautiful, bright, and bubbly sister alive.

During the weeks following Beth's death, the chapter decided to start a campaign called #BuckleUpForBeth to raise seatbelt safety awareness. We sell bracelets for UWA students and other friends and family of Bethany to wear to remind themselves and others to always buckle up. We also host an events where students can pledge to "Buckle Up for Beth" by signing their name.

Our sister and Miss UWA 2016, Sarah Neill, used #BuckleUpForBeth as her platform in both the Miss UWA, Miss Walker County, and Miss Alabama pageants. With her efforts, she was able to raise hundreds of dollars that was donated to Bethany's parents and help start a #BuckleUpForBeth scholarship at Bethany's alma mater, Dora High School. .

To keep her memory alive, now Phi Mu Alumna, BreAnna Johnson, created a scholarship in Bethany's name that new members of our chapter can apply for by writing an essay. The $750 scholarship is awarded annually. Funds for this scholarship are raised by selling the #BuckleUpForBeth bracelets and split-the-pot raffle sales.
